Fleetwood Area School District’s Relay for Life team will be holding a “safe trick-or-treat” on 28 October 2015 at the Fleetwood Area High School. The safe trick-or-treat event provides a safe environment for young children to trick-or-treat for candy for the price of $5.00 plus an additional dollar for a “haunted house experience.”

The kids will be walking through a decorated English hallway with Relay team members dispensing candy in teachers’ classrooms. The haunted house, in room 110, will feature masked Relay members lying in wait for their prey. Other activities include face painting, pumpkin painting, and other arts and crafts. All of the proceeds will be donated to the American Cancer Society.

Last year, the team had a difficult time running the event due to the lack of members. There were only five members, and only a few were there to run the event. The team won’t have the same problem this year.  The Relay for Life team has nearly tripled the amount of members since last year.

“We have many more people involved this year, so it should have a good turnout,” team member Cassandra Harwood said.

Despite this, team captain and science teacher Matthew Biniek wishes he had more people involved.

“It doesn’t take a lot of time and it’s for a great cause,” Biniek said about the event.

The main purpose of the event is to raise money to support the fight against cancer. In fact, the Relay for Life team is about raising money to help fight cancer. The team holds several fundraisers each year to raise money and are always looking for more support from students.
