- 10 June 2014: The day that the second of largest city in Iraq, Mosul, fell to Isis. Isis then declared itself the Islamic state. It has been stated that Isis has replaced Al Qaeda for accomplishing the takeover of Mosul and the rise of terror. The root of Isis comes from Jama’at al-Tawhid wal-Jihad in 2004, when they were first established. Isis is competing with Al Qaeda for the most dominating terrorist group. The group has been recruiting members starting at age five. To be in Al Qaeda, you have to be 13 at the youngest. Isis originally started as a splinter group of Al Qaeda.
- 3 February, 2014: Al Qaeda renounced any and all ties to Isis.
- May 2014: Isis kidnapped school boys and forced them to learn the ways of Isis, including their radical religious views.
- 28 June 2014: Borders closed for refuges.
- 30 June: 1.2 million Iraqis were displaced from their homes.
- 19 August 2014: Isis releases a video of them beheading James Foley, a U.S journalist who was missing in Syria since 2012 and threatens the life of U.S journalist Steven Sotloff. Steven Sotloff was later executed by Isis. Isis has committed many murders and has recently attacked Paris and claimed more lives.
