Go to any Fleetwood Area High School sporting event, and you will find Fleetwood’s student section cheering on their classmates. The Superfans, as they are known, are a fixture at Fleetwood games and have gained a fairly large following among students at soccer, football, field hockey, and volleyball events.
The Superfans bring energy to games with chants such as “Start the buses” and routines including the “roller coaster”. Each game usually has a theme as well. For example, one football game was “Hawaiian night”; students came dressed in leis and Hawaiian attire. More common are single color themes, such as red and white outs.
The Superfans organize many of these themes and provide updates on events through their Twitter account, which has over 600 followers.
The Superfans have even received shout-outs in the Reading Eagle and on Twitter by local sports reporters who are at the games.
Students enjoy the experience.
“My favorite part of being in the student section is the atmosphere,” senior Ryan Scepansky said.
Athletes certainly enjoy having such strong support.
“We like having as many people there as possible,” senior soccer player Kale Follweiler said.
