The girls soccer season came to an end on 15 November. It was an unforgettable and historic season to say the least. The girls played their hearts out and gave the whole Fleetwood Area School District something to be proud of.
The team made it all the way into state semi-finals but had a very upsetting 3-0 loss to Villa Joseph Marie. Even with this loss, the community was still proud of this girls’ team. They never gave up on themselves or on their teammates. The girls always pushed each other to do better, and that made them come closer as a team.
Throughout this season, they had some pretty good accomplishments. They had an undefeated regular season and went on the win the county championship. They beat Mifflin, 1-0, with a goal from Alexis Nowotarski with seconds left in the first half. That was the lone goal in the game that gave the girls something to remember.
They made a good run through districts and through states as well.
“It was an amazing season, and I’m proud that I was apart of it,” junior Kaili Brinker said. “Everybody on this team always did their part, and it made out to be a great season. We won counties, and it was such an amazing feeling. I really never wanted this season to end, but obviously it has to come to an end sometime. I’m really going to miss playing with these seniors. I will never forget this season, but we’ve got to look forward to next season.”
The team is already doing just that. They have a bright future ahead of them, and all of the team and coaches are excited to see how it plays out, even with the loss of five key players.
The seniors were big keys to this season’s success, but there are great replacements to fill in the spots for the leaving players.
