Jayra Chavarría is a junior at Fleetwood Area High School. She was born in New York on 29 May 2002. The first time she moved was in the first grade, and, in the seventh grade, she moved to Fleetwood. As she goes into her junior year of high school, she’s starting to look into colleges. She would like to attend NYU and major in journalism as of right now.
Out of school, Jayra participates in film club, student council, ARTifact, and Model UN. At home, she has two dogs, a boxer named Rocky and a chihuahua and poodle mix named Maxi. When it comes to food, nothing beats her mom’s homemade dinners. There aren’t many restaurants out there that Jayra would choose over staying in and having her mom cook up a meal. With politics, she is more on the liberal side and is not a big fan of current president Donald Trump. One famous person that she does like and could be said to be her “celebrity crush” is the bassist of the music group 5 Seconds of Summer, Calum Hood. Calum is a twenty-two-year-old male from Australia, which is the same place as Chavarría’s dream vacation.
With two years left in high school, she looks to work hard and complete her goal of getting into NYU and becoming a journalist. She hopes that this class can educate her on what she needs to know when moving on to a new stage so she can then start writing for places like her college newspaper or even a major national newspaper.
