Every month, two students from the senior class are selected as the Students of the Month. For the month of February, two well-deserving candidates were chosen.
Seniors Samuel Schappell of Tiger Times renown and Leah Dewald have been selected by faculty and staff as February’s Students of the Month. Both receive a gift card to a place of their choosing as well as a special parking spot for the month.
Samuel Schappell is the male recipient of this month’s award. Sam is a member of National Honor Society, Rho Kappa, Science Olympiad, Tiger TV, and The Tiger Times. He dedicates most of his time to soccer and basketball and also volunteers with The Greater Berks Food Bank and Breakfast Brothers. Sam’s greatest role model is his sister Haley Schappell, who is brave, smart, and strong, as well as a member of the LGBTQ+ community, which inspires Sam to fight for equality alongside her. After high school, Sam plans to attend Syracuse University for broadcasting and digital journalism.
Leah Dewald is the female recipient of February’s award. Leah is involved in many clubs and activities, including cheerleading, track and field, Student Council, Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), Yearbook, cross country, and the musicals. Leah also donates her time to youth cheerleading organizations as well as with the Art Event. Leah admires her grandmother most because she always sees the bright side of any situation. After high school, Leah plans to attend college to study biomedical science and later move to dental school.
Congratulations to both students!
