FBLA’ s Regional Leadership Conference is around the corner, and Fleetwood is starting to prepare.

Every year, Pennsylvania regions one through twenty-eight hold a Regional Leadership Conference in which members compete in an event relating to the ideas and principles of FBLA. Members have a choice of taking an individual or team test, competing in a performance event, or creating a chapter project.

The first, second, and third place winners of each event are qualified for the State Leadership Conference held in April. Last year, 105 Fleetwood students competed at Regionals, making Fleetwood the largest delegation in Region eight. Of those, seventy-one members attended the SLC.

At the 2018-2019 SLC, Fleetwood students Corey Livinghouse, Mason Reimert, Avery Millisock, and Maddie Musitano qualified and attended the National Leadership Conference.

This year, the RLC will be held at Albright University. The competition is on 17 December; however, students and advisors are already preparing.

Fleetwood teacher and regional advisor Kelly Ackerman is encouraging members to sign up and compete. She offers help to members deciding to compete. She creates study guides and helps the performance events create and prepare their performances.

Members enjoy the RLC and look forward to it every year.

“I like it; it gives people a reason to really know business knowledge,” Avery Millisock, a senior at FAHS and 2019 NLC attender, said.

For first-timers, the events may seem scary.

“I was nervous at first,” sophomore Bella Atchina said. “I wasn’t extremely pleased with what I [placed], but I was still able to attend the SLC.”

“Research as much as you can, and put in all the effort possible because the reward is more than enough, almost surreal,” Millisock said to members competing for the first time.

“Relax and don’t stress; it will only hurt you,” Mason Reimert said.

Sign-ups for the RLC have ended; however, members encourage everyone to sign up next year.
