Throughout the world, millions of people face problems with poverty and starvation. So, how can concerned citizens, such as high school students, help with this issue?

The Fleetwood Food Pantry is an organization that has been running for twenty-two years now. It is dedicated to helping as many struggling families as possible and providing them with meals.

Tom Wright, the current head of the food pantry, has been in charge for seventeen years now.

His brother was previously in charge, but Tom took over soon after he retired.

“I felt obligated to help out in any way I could,” Wright said.

With over 800-1,000 families coming in yearly, it is important that everyone makes a contribution when possible.

On the first Thursday of every month, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., volunteers come in to make, bag, and distribute food.

“I couldn’t do it by myself. The amount of support from the local churches and civic groups is overwhelming,” Wright said.

As winter approaches, there is an increase in people coming in for meals. However, there has been a decrease in the number of people coming in overall.

“It ebbs and flows. We’ll have people coming in regularly and people we haven’t seen before,” Wright said.

The Fleetwood Food Pantry and every food pantry out there have made it possible to make a difference and help those in need.
