The January transfer window is where every year a soccer team can buy and sell players midway through the year. The goal is to help acquire what the team needs for the rest of the year. Each team gets a month to fix the problems with their team to win more games.
According to http://www.transfermarkt.us, the most expensive player this year was Ferran Torres. Manchester city sold him to Barcelona for 60.5 Million dollars. This was a good transfer for Man City because they earned a huge fee for him, and he did not get enough game time to be an important player.
The second most expensive signing this January transfer window was Luis Diaz to Liverpool. This signing cost $50 million to bring the Colombian winger from Porto. This signing is up in the air because Liverpool already has quality attackers and does not need to be splashing the cash on another one.
The third most expensive signing was Chris Wood to Newcastle. This cost $33 million. Chris Wood is considered only an average striker, so some think 33 million is way too much for a player like him.
Lucas Digne also cost Aston Villa $33 million from Everton. This was a great signing for Aston Villa because he is one of the top left-backs in the league.
The next transfer is Rodrigo Bentancur to Spurs. This cost the Spurs $20 million from Juventus. The Spurs have a lot of problems with their team at the moment and could use more talent, but Rodrigo Bentancur might not be the right one for this team.
Whether any of these transfers benefit the teams in the way they hope remains to be seen.
