Reading Film Fest Plans High School Competition

The Reading Film Fest is holding a 5-minute high school film festival on April 24th-26th 2023. It will be broadcast on Youtube, Facebook, and BCTV. 

The Awards Ceremony will occur in person on Thursday, April 28th, at 6:00 p.m. at the Miller Center for the Arts RACC. It will include special guest speaker, J.W. Cortes, who is an Actor, Speaker, Marine combat veteran, and New York police officer.

To submit to the Reading Film Festival, students should visit https://filmfreeway.com/FiveMinuteFilmFEST. The film festival has already received sixteen entries from high schools all over Berks County. The deadline to submit is March 31st, and the late deadline will be on April 3rd.

Submissions must be an original short film/video projects. The total run time should be three to five minutes, including a title slate, opening credits, and closing credits.

The festival will include a discount at the following restaurants if spectators show their tickets: 3rd & Spruce Drafthaus, Brewer’s Bar and Grill, Cheers American Bistro, G.N.A. Ristorante, Judy’s on Cherry, I Casa Su Casa Cafe, Saucony Creek, Franklin Station BrewPub, and The Ugly Oyster Drafthaus. 

The Film Fest will also include independent filmmakers from all around the world. 

The following awards will be presented. For first place, participants will receive a 250-dollar Visa card, a crystal award, and a swag bag. Second place will earn a 150-dollar Visa card and a crystal award. Third place will receive a 75-dollar Visa card and an award certificate. All participating students and teachers will receive an all-access pass for the days of the film festival.
