Fleetwood students are counting down the days until the last day of school. Getting out at 10 a.m. on the seventh of June is the start of summer, not to mention the same day seniors will walk across the stage.

Graduation has come faster than most expected, and, for many, it feels as if senior year has flown by.

“I feel like the time went by really fast. It feels like just yesterday I was walking into school for my last first day, and now we’re less than a month away from graduating. I never imagined that I would be a part of the ‘graduating seniors.’ It always seemed so far away, and now I am walking the stage in four weeks,” Laurianna Touch said.

Unfortunately, Covid-19 ended the 2023 graduating class early during their freshman year, then forced their learning online during sophomore year, and their junior year was still in the early stages of returning to normal.

Their senior year was the first “normal” year of high school they have experienced. Making events such as homecoming, Mini-thon, and Prom worthwhile, the senior class made sure their final year in high school was everything they could make it.

“Senior prom was definitely a big one. I spent the whole night with my best friends, and we had so much fun. It’s one of my favorite nights in a while, and it was nice to end on a high note after not a great high school career, thanks to COVID,” Evangeline Crossley said.

Graduating high school is a huge step in a person’s life and it can be nerve-wracking to not know what can happen afterward, but coming across change can add a multitude of opportunities to someone’s life.

“I feel very nervous about graduating because it is scary not knowing what the future holds for me. At the same time, it feels good to finally be moving along with my life,” Jeffrey Brown said.

There have been highs, and there have been lows for the graduating class of 2023. However, high school at Fleetwood has been a once-in-a-lifetime journey that seniors were glad to experience.

“I feel like I should be coming back next year, and even though I am excited for the next chapter of my life, I’m going to really miss high school. Even though we all complain about high school, we’ve all made our best friends and made really good memories in high school,” Haley Hallman said.
