Field Hockey Not Going Down without a Fight

Compared to Fleetwood Field Hockey’s 2009 season, their 2010 season is quite the improvement. Last year, the Lady Tigers finished 9-2-1 in Berks and 13-5-2 in District, but it certainly wasn’t easy. They were knocked out of the first round in County and District playoffs and fell by one point to Conrad Weiser for the Division title despite a decent overall season record. But the Tigers weren’t about to let last year’s rough season get in the way of success this year.

The Field Hockey team currently has an undefeated record of 6-0 overall and 5-0 in their league. The team has not lost any major player since last season, including last year’s All-Berks player and Scoring Champion, Alyssa Delp. Other key players returning are All-Division and All-State Team 2 selection Sarah Bergman, All-Division Team 2 Liz Bergman, and Rayann Fink.

Coach Joyce Angstadt is not planning on doing everything the same. “I wanted to change our formation up entirely,” says Angstadt. “We have a team that is so heavily offensive, we had to accommodate to our advantages.”

The two major highlights of the girls’ season are defeating defending County Champions Wilson and beating Division II rivals Conrad Weiser. Fleetwood beat Wilson 1-0 with a goal from Liz Bergman off a corner assist from Sarah Bergman, her sister. Later that week, the Tigers defeated Conrad Weiser 3-0 with two goals from Alyssa Delp and one goal from Sarah Bergman.

The Field Hockey team has no intentions of slowing down anytime soon or to break their winning streak. They are focusing on taking one game at a time and giving the remainder of the season all they have.
