Netflix has recently attempted to secure big names for exclusive deals with them. Earlier this year, they announced a deal with actor Seth Rogan and now have announced a production deal with the Obamas. The deal has the Obamas set to produce movies and TV for the streaming service, anything from scripted TVto a documentaries.
“Barack and I have always believed in the power of storytelling to inspire us, to make us think differently about the world around us, and to help us open our minds and hearts to others,” Michelle Obama said to give some explanation about the deal.
This isn’t the former President’s first run in with Netflix this year either; in January, he had been a guest on former Late Show host David Letterman’s Netflix show.
One potential worry people have about this is that the Obamas’ future programs will have a heavy focus on politics or world events; however, Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos says there is no need to worry and had this to say about their content: “There’s no political slant to the programming.”
“One of the simple joys of our time in public service was getting to meet so many fascinating people from all walks of life and to help them share their experiences with a wider audience,” President Obama said.
So far there are no release dates or general timeframes for when these programs will debut on the service. Only time will tell what type of programming the Obamas will produce and how the world will respond to it.
