Two students at Fleetwood Area High School were honored as November’s Student of the Month because of their dedication and contribution to the school and community.
Emma Crissman believes she was chosen because she maintains good standing with her teachers and always tries her best in school and her extracurricular activities. Zach Haas believes he was given this honor because he works to the best of his ability.
Since freshman year, both Emma and Zachary have actively participated in various clubs and sports, all of which display their leadership and inquisitiveness.
Emma is a part of the varsity girls’ soccer and basketball team and is a member of Relay-for-Life, Treasurer for Model United Nations, Secretary for Student Council, and Vice President of Interact Club. Moreover, she also participates in Future Business Leaders of America, National Honor Society, and Rho Kappa. Outside of Fleetwood’s extracurricular activities, Crissman enjoys spending time with her friends, family, and dogs, as well as baking.
Zachary is a member of the boys’ varsity soccer and tennis teams and also participates in Future Business Leaders of America, Science Olympiad, National Honor Society, Rho Kappa, Band, Chorus, and Orchestra.
When asked, who is the most influential person in her life, Emma identified her grandmother.
“My grandmother inspires me because she taught me to be the person I am today,” Crissman said. “She showed me the importance of respecting and caring for everyone no matter who they are.”
The person who has had the greatest impact on Zachary is his father.
“My father inspires me because he is the most hard-working and dedicated man that I have ever met,” Haas said. “He is always there to support his family and is an amazing role model for my brothers and me.”
After high school, Emma plans to attend Penn State University to pursue something she loves. She also plans on traveling the world and seeing different things.
Zachary plans to attend a four-year university and study Aerospace Engineering.
Both students excel in mathematics and science and would love to use the knowledge they gained in those subjects to pursue a career in a related field.
Upon winning student of the month, both Zachary and Emma felt honored and humbled. Throughout the course of high school, they have put an intense amount of effort into everything they do.
If you want to be the next student of the month, Emma advises you to put 110% into all that you do, continue smiling, and do something you enjoy. Zachary believes you should always try your hardest and respect everyone around you.
