The FAHS Women’s Empowerment Club has started up for the 2021-2022 school year.
Fleetwood Area High School has started a club to help young men and women learn about different topics pertaining to women’s struggles and rights in the world today.
“In Women’s Empowerment Club, anyone who wants to join is welcome,” adviser Sherri Rankin said.
Although the main focus of this club is to talk about women’s struggles, all genders are able to join and get involved in the conversation.
The Women’s Empowerment Club has made an effort to help female students’ lives easier by putting hygiene products in the bathrooms.
“As a club, we are working to fulfill our mission of empowering young people and providing positive affirmations in the girl’s bathrooms, as well as free feminine hygiene products,” Rankin said.
Many club members talk very highly about the positive effects that this club has had on their mindsets about women’s rights.
“I found out about this club last year when there were talks of it potentially being created, and I was super excited,” club member Emily Kline said.
Some of the topics of discussion during the meetings are pronouns, self-confidence, and positivity in the community.
“I joined because I thought it would be a good opportunity to help women and girls in our community, as well as to educate myself more on the topics that surround women,” Kline said.
The goal of this club is to spread the message that all women should be treated equally, and anyone who believes in this message can choose to take part in this club.
