FASD Sports Hall of Fame Members Inducted

On Tuesday, 28 December, there was a Berks County Sports Hall of Fame ceremony. There were seven inductees into the hall of fame.        

The seven people were Mike Boyer, Emily Arndt, Denise Wisser, Tom Magill, Matt Keller, Laurie Frederick and, Jeff Turner. Some of these people are coaches, and others are players.

Denise Wisser was a four-year high school athlete. She played softball, basketball, and field hockey. She was very good at each sport, making All-County for all of her sports and won titles in all of these sports as well.

Emily Arndt was another great athlete for Fleetwood. Arndt was an All-State soccer player in 2007 and 2008, leading her team to Berks and District championships. She also competed in cross country and basketball.

The third person was Mike Boyer. He played soccer and basketball and went on to be the girls’ soccer coach. He coached for twenty-three seasons, winning fifteen Division titles, four County titles and, four District titles. He has also won Berks Coach-of-the-Year 5 times.

Matt Keller was also a three-sport athlete, playing soccer, basketball,  and baseball. He won a State Championship for the soccer team and made All-Divison for basketball. His best sport was baseball; he had a great Fleetwood career and went on to sign a pro contract with the Slippery Rock Sliders.        

Jeff Turner was a one-sport athlete in soccer. He was a two-year captan and was All-State his junior year. He also won a County and District title.

Thomas Magill was a five-sport Fleetwood athlete, playing soccer, track, cross country, basketball, volleyball, and baseball. His best sport was track, with multiple awards and multiple wins at meets.

The final athlete was Laurie Frederick. She was a three-sport athlete playing field hockey, basketball, and softball. Her main sport was Field Hockey, winning a County title and being named All-County twice.
