Student-athletes from Fleetwood Area High School committed to their choice of college on 2 February 2022.

Gavin Morris, who has played football for twelve years, is attending Misericordia to study physical therapy or exercise science. Will Ryan, who has played football for eleven years, is attending Lebanon Valley for exercise science. Joey Svoboda has played football for eight years and is attending The College of William and Mary with plans of becoming an athletic trainer.  Malachai Herndon, who has played soccer for fourteen years, is attending the California University of Pennsylvania with a major in business marketing.

Gavin Morris gives his credits to Fleetwood for making his football experience one of a kind. The energy of the audience and the atmosphere is something every athlete craves.

”Fleetwood has made me love playing sports. It has made me understand that your hard work will show and people will respect and notice it,” Morris said.

Will Ryan understands the changes of moving to college from high school. He will miss the energy his teammates gave him, but he is excited to make new memories in college.

”I’m going to miss hanging out with my friends/teammates during our nights out, late-night dinners, sleepovers, and funny moments in the locker room,” Ryan said.

When looking at colleges, Joey Svoboda found what he was looking for.

”The family atmosphere from the coaches and players on the team was the biggest go-ahead for me,” Svoboda said.

Malachai Herndon appreciates everything his parents have done for him.

”My parents have definitely helped because I’ve thought about stopping and quitting, and all they’ve done is encourage me, and I’m very grateful for it,” Herndon said.

Along with making lifetime friendships, football and soccer has shown the boys what true leadership is. All four athletes have worked hard for a good future.
