It’s off to college lacrosse for some Fleetwood twins. Jocelyn and Karissa Doerr are seniors at Fleetwood Area High School. They play lacrosse for the Schuylkill Valley Panthers.
On November 9th, they signed letters of intent to play lacrosse for the University of Mount Olive in Mount Olive, North Carolina. Jocelyn and Karissa Doerr were among the six Fleetwood Area High School seniors to sign letters of intent for their respective sports.
“I actually originally committed to Queens University of Charlotte, but after a coaching change and their decision to make the jump to Division 1, I felt it wasn’t a good fit anymore. I didn’t really want to play D1. I also had received an offer from Mount Olive, so I reached out to their coaches when I decided to consider other options,” Fleetwood Area High School senior Karissa Doerr said.
The Doerr siblings have been playing lacrosse since their seventh-grade year.
“[That’s] a bit later than most people [start],” Karissa Doerr said.
“I started playing goalie right away and really loved it. I love the mental aspect of the game. I played for Schuylkill Valley since then and also played club. It was always my goal to play in college, and I’m really excited to be able to continue for 4 more years,” Karissa Doerr said .
“I really liked the coaches and the team [at Mount Olive]. Also the warm weather,” Jocelyn Doerr said.
The November 9th signing of letters of intent is an exciting development for Fleetwood Area School District athletics.
