North Korea Tests Nuclear Missile Capable of Reaching America

North Korea launched ballistic missiles into the sea Saturday, November 12, 2022. The U.S. sent two bombers to South Korea in a display of military prowess. Tensions have started to rise, and new updates about the missile have come in.

North Korea has test-fired more than thirty missiles since the initial test Saturday. These long-range launches are rare and pose a direct threat to the US, as the missiles are designed to carry nuclear warheads anywhere on the US mainland.

Late the previous Friday, after test-fire evacuation alerts that led people to leave Northern Japan, North Korea’s foreign ministry described the country’s military actions. In response to the display, as described by CNBC, North Korea said it isn’t scared to be more fierce in its actions.

“U.S and international observers have been warning for months that North Korea is preparing for an underground Nuclear testing,” The New York Times reported.

That Thursday, the U.S. and South Korea conducted a missile drill for defense. Later that day, a missile went out from North Korea.

“The North’s state media said Saturday that Kim had observed the launch of its new type of intercontinental ballistic missile with his wife Ri Sol Ju, their ‘beloved daughter,’ and other officials the previous day. Kim said the launch of the Hwasong-17 missile — the North’s longest-range, nuclear-capable missile — proved he has a reliable weapon to contain U.S.-led military threats,” NPR said.

The test would be the hermit nation’s first in five years. Along with the missile, Kim Jong-un introduced his daughter for the first time in a public appearance. Little to no information has been given about her. Many are wondering, Why now?

Not only was the missile big news, but it could mean something more if Kim Jong-un’s daughter was involved; However, KCNA didn’t provide further details.
